We specialize in Fly Fishing as we do belive it is the best method of catching redfish. However every captain carries spinning gear to accomodate any anglers skill level.
Where will we fish?
Between 30 minutes to 1 hour drive from the Uptown Angler Shop, located downtown New Orleans in the wharehouse district convient to all of New Orleans. We fish the Mississippi River Delta area from Venice to Hopedale which has more costline then Florida. We fish in Brackish to Saltwater areas of what is collectivley refered to as the Louisiana Marsh Lands. This area is the ideal habitat for Redfish and Sight Fishing to redfish. We fish in water from 6" to 3ft in depth where you will see the fish before you cast. The majority of our flats are formed from sediments destributed by the mighty Mississippi river to create extensive mud flats, shallow water ponds and chanels, this is redfish heaven.
What are we fishing for?
Redfish: We hope you have heard of our Redfish but if you haven't that is our main target on our guided redfishing charters. Redfish are a member of the Drum family of fish and also known as Red Drum. You will enjoy every fish you catch and they average in the 5 - 15lb class so for many people these will be some of the biggest fish they will ever catch in their LIFE. Redfish are the most apt to taking flies and occur in the greatest numbers on our Flats. Redfish tend to be aggressive towards flies subsurface and on the water surface. We use many different fly patterns on our guided fishing trips and you can find many of our favorites on our redfish flies page. Redfish are known for their aggressive takes and freight train like fighting once hooked. Redfish do regularly go over 20lbs and in the winter season from October - February fish in the 30+ lb category are very possible. The current state record is over 40lbs on fly. Come catch some of these beautiful fish and find out why New Orleans, Louisiana is regarded as the top redfish destination in the world.
Black Drum: A cousin of the redifsh black drum are often seen on our guided fly fishing trips. They can get really big but are not usually to apt to eating a fly and are not known for being great fighting fish.
Sheephead: These finicky fish have been referred to as Cajun Permit because they tend to be very spooky and hard to get a hook up. If you are fortunate enough to hook and then land one of these funny looking fish you will realize why they are called sheephead from their abnormal teeth.
Speckled Trout: From time to time Specks will be seen on some of the deaper areas of a flat but they tend not to be on the flats. They are readily available in the deaper areas but redfish are much more fun.
Jacks: Jack Crevalle are seen in the marsh in the summer time but are unpredictable and not easily targeted. If you are fortunate enough to spot a crusing school of jacks on your next guide trip with us get the fly in front of them and start stripping and then hold on!
What will I see on my guide trip other then Fish?
In general NOT PEOPLE (accept around the boat launch). The Marsh is teaming with life and a boat ride out into the marsh is a treat in itself, let alone being able to fish. You are likely to find our state bird the Pelican flying along side your skiff, a dolphin poping up to take a look at you, numourous species of migrating birds, ducks, mullet and other bait fish trying not to be a redfishes next meal, shrimp that at sometimes of the year will litterly jump in the boat and crabs patroling the flats.
Why New Orleans Louisiana?
Simply put you get the best redfishing in the world and a great city to enjoy off the water. New Orleans is one of those cities that everyone falls in love with, a kin to paris. You have Architecture, Culture, Cuisine, Romance, Nightlife and best of all Redfishing. This is truly a destination fishery.
