Monster Reds in the Summer with Capt. Travis Holeman
Just like any other New Orleans summer, the afternoon rain had been killing us and afternoon fishing has not been very good. This was not the case on Sunday.
Capt. Travis and I launched out of Brenton Sound Marina in his 22ft. Lake and Bay bay boat at about 7 AM.
We discussed a few options on where to fish that day and decided that we were going to make a run as far outside as we could go. Many people believe that there are no bull redfish to sight cast to in the summertime.
After Sunday, I can assure you that it is for sure a myth.
After a long boat ride out to the fishing ground, we started searching for clean enough water, which was found in a short time. The water was clean and the fish were there, but we could not get them to eat early.
This changed at about 11 A.M. Right at about 11, we started spotting many pods of redfish and catching as many as we could. At around 2 PM, we we cruising along a bank when I spotted a monster red tailing in about 2.5 feet of water.
Not realizing how large the fish actually was, I calmly casted in front of it, and was soon hooked up!
This was by far the highlight of the trip and my biggest red yet, and probably my biggest red ever.
We saw about another 10 or 15 fish that size that day.
The trophy redfish are around guys and Capt. Travis knows where they are. One unique thing about fishing with Travis is that he loves teaching everyone about the marsh and the tactics he uses to catch these huge reds.
Call or email Uptown Angler to book a trip with Capt. Travis.
Thanks Travis for a great learning experience on the marsh and for putting me not only on a massive number of fish, but on the fish of a lifetime!
